I have seen the Bear in far northern waters from the deck of the Independence CV 62. Exercise Ocean Safari with the Royal Navy and NATO Standing Force Atlantic. We went 65 to 70 miles above the Arctic Circle in October and November of 1975. Needless to say Ivan was interested.
