Luke 20:17 And he beheld them, and said, What is this then that is written, The stone which the builders rejected, the same is become the head of the corner? When Jesus preached this text, it angered His hearers. The chief priests and scribes perceived that Jesus had spoken the parable against them. I'm bringing these thoughts from scripture not against you, but to help you. The stone which the builders rejected in our text is a plain reference to the Lord Jesus Christ. Please think with me today on THE STONE THAT YOU SHOULD NOT REFUSE.Although in this verse Jesus referred to Himself as a stone for construction, stones in the Bible and throughout history have been used for many things. The ten commandments were given in stone. David slew the giant with a stone. Some tools were made from stones. Weapons and cutting tools were sharpened on stones. Certain stones were very valuable. Let's see how these uses can point us to the need we have for the Lord.First, JESUS IS THE STONE THAT YOU SHOULD NOT REFUSE FOR A PERMANENT FOUNDATION.Isaiah 28:16 Therefore thus saith the Lord GOD, Behold, I lay in Zion for a foundation a stone, a tried stone, a precious corner stone, a sure foundation: he that believeth shall not make haste.Jesus is the permanent, perfect foundation not only for salvation and one's eternal destiny, but also for a marriage, for money matters, and for mental health (1 Cor. 3:11; Ps. 11:3).Second, JESUS IS THE STONE THAT YOU SHOULD NOT REFUSE FOR A POWERFUL FORTIFICATION. An example of this usage is in:Nehemiah 4:3 Now Tobiah the Ammonite was by him, and he said, Even that which they build, if a fox go up, he shall even break down their stone wall.Jesus can protect you from stealing (your testimony, your joy, your soul! Jn. 10:10), from smiting, and from storms. Last, JESUS IS THE STONE THAT YOU SHOULD NOT REFUSE FOR A PLEASANT AND PROSPEROUS FUTURE. Better than diamonds, Jesus provides the best enjoyment, the best environment, and the best eternity (heaven!!). We're talking about an investment here in precious stones.1 Peter 2:7 Unto you therefore which believe he is precious: but unto them which be disobedient, the stone which the builders disallowed, the same is made the head of the corner,JESUS IS THE STONE THAT YOU SHOULD NOT REFUSE!
