John 1:14 And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father) full of grace and truth. In your King James Bible, "Word," when it is capitalized is always a reference to the Lord Jesus Christ, rather than to the written or spoken word. This designation of the Lord is used by the divine inspiration of God in the writings of John: the gospel of John, his first epistle, and the book of Revelation. By the way, the fact that the Lord Jesus has chosen to identify Himself with the word should alert us to give due reverence to the Lord's written word, the scriptures. We dare not trifle with the written word, since Jesus is called the living Word. Today consider with me JESUS, THE WORD OF GOD, as we consider a few reasons why Jesus Christ is called the Word. First, THE WORD REVEALS AN UNSEEN PERSON. Your words reveal you! John 1:18 No man hath seen God at any time; the only begotten Son, which is in the bosom of the Father, he hath declared him.Jesus is the image of God (2 Cor. 4:4) and the express image of His person (Heb. 1:3). He revealed the Father as the Creator (Jn. 1:3), as the Controller, as the Commander, and someday as the Conqueror.Second, THE WORD REPORTS AN UNKNOWN PASSION (LOVE) (Acts 1:3 - "passion"; Jn. 3:16; Rom. 5:8). Jesus reported the design of God's love, the depth of God's love, and the duration of God's love (Rom. 8:38-39). Third, THE WORD REPRESENTS AN UNKNOWN PURITY. Matthew 12:34-35 O generation of vipers, how can ye, being evil, speak good things? for out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaketh. 35 A good man out of the good treasure of the heart bringeth forth good things: and an evil man out of the evil treasure bringeth forth evil things. We associate words with purity even today. It is sad to hear filthy language from a woman whom we assume to be a lady. It is sadder to hear cursing from the mouths of those who claim to be saved.Christ revealed God's purity in that His words were holy, His works were holy, and His will was holy! Last, THE WORD RELATES AN UNEXPRESSED PURPOSE (Heb. 1:1-2). We do not know someone's intent unless he tells us. He related God's purpose to show the grace of God; to save the guilty; and to spread the glad tidings! If you're wanting God to speak from heaven to you, He has already done so in the Lord Jesus Christ. Are you listening to the Word (capital W)? Have you trusted the Word, Jesus, as your personal Savior?
