Why Glory in the Cross?
Gal. 6:14"But God forbid that I should boast except in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, by whom the world has been crucified to the world and I to the world"
Paul said that God should stop Him and prevent him from any glory in any other thing but the cross. Through the cross, the world is nothing, and he is dead to the world, and all that is offered without God is cut off from it.
Why would Paul seek the glory of the cross and the event of humiliation accomplished there when Jesus died there?
1-We can't save ourselves without the cross. We can’t pay for sins and be saved from their penalty, which is why Jesus died as a substitute for our sins on the cross.
2- The cross is the agent of accomplishment for us to be saved. Jesus finished the task needed for us to be saved there.
3-The cross removes self-abasement because we see Christ's self-humiliation and we can dare not exalt ourselves if we follow Him.
4-It is the victory we have over anything the world must offer because our response to it is the only thing that matters in all eternity and when everything is removed from it.
5-It was an instrument of drawing people to Christ because of the power of the message of the cross-I Cor. 2:1-2.
How dare we minimize, deny or side-step the message of the cross. What was accomplished there was necessary for our salvation, and that’s why we glory in it.
