God's Discipline as a Father
Deut. 8:5 "Thou shalt also consider in thine heart, that as a man chasteneth his son, so the Lord thy God chaseneth thee"
God deals with us as a Father in His discipline of His children. We don't understand His ways at times. But the discipline a Father gives us is always what is best. Moses wanted Israel to understand that whatever God did, it was for their benefit because He understood what they needed to go into the promised land.
He taught them patience, and through it all, they became disciplined. Discipline is a word we don't like because, very often it involves pain and suffering and requires patience for us to wait on God. God knows what we need, but it does not always involve good times, fun, and games.
We must see the outcome of our lives is to be what God wants us to be. It is temporary and has an end in mind that is glorious. So, we must accept it whether we understand it or not. Then knowing our lives are in God's hands will always be bolstered by the fact that He will always do right. We are to let patience have her perfect work in us to achieve the goal He has for us.
