Before anyone FREAKS-OUT about what I just posted, I want you to know that I did so because of a real conflicted perspective that I have never recognized before. I gave this meme a second thought which left me in questioning my patriotism.
I would love to start a conversation/debate about ALL perspectives.
I will start out by saying... My initial response was negative against the defiance shown. But then I realized that the same spark in side of me that defines me as a patriot is the same spark of patriotism of this native American. Being the sarcastic S.O.B. that I am, woke me to appreciated the "in your face" attitude of this meme.
I now see that I have no "real connection" to Columbus. It is only "the history" that I was taught. The real connect I have is on the ground I stand. It is the same ground that many tribes connected with. I now question, "do I love and respect this land and country the same as that of our native inhabitants do"?
I can't help but feel that it is upon the shoulders of our native brother and sister that we stand as well as our founding fathers.
My definition of Patriotism has just gone through a paridym shift. It is now stronger than ever.
I would love to hear ALL opinions. God bless.

Do a little digging into how Columbus "reamerged" in the late 1920s to early 1930s. This may help to explain why he is honored today.

I dissagree with the attitude of the woman in the post. By this line of thinking, I should despies England because many generations ago my ancesters lost there land and rights in Ireland because they were catholic. Bad juju. Flipping the bird is like rejecting American history. We can celebrate b... View More
