Ps. 122:1 “I was glad when they said to me, “Let us go into the house of the Lord.”Anxiously waiting to enter the temple was David’s reflection. Many had traveled far and wide to enter and offer the sacrifice representing the cleansing of the worshipper. David was either reflecting what the worshipers felt after seeing the city and then entering the temple courts awaiting entrance into the house of the Lord, or he was expressing his joy in entering the temple in this song of ascents. It is a model to us of how we approach worship.Expectancy, or the lack of it makes all the difference in the world in worship. Do we expect the highest point of contact with God during the week or is it just another Sunday that is more of an obligation than a joy? Do we expect to meet God dynamically and be transformed by His presence in worship through being with believers? The biggest question to our worship of the Lord is do we expect to be transformed by God through it. We must pray, follow in the Bible, be sensitive to the Spirit’s leading, seek to minister while we are there, and ask God to do the unexpected in an unknown way that leads to a fresh encounter with the Lord. We also must know that worship is only beginning when we leave the church building because worship is a verb instead of a noun. So, worship the Lord in the beauty of His holiness and look forward to doing it the way David did.-- Dan Nelson
