Break Yourself on the 10 Commandments but you will but never break them. “The Lord spoke these words to all of you assembled there at the foot of the mountain. He spoke with a loud voice from the heart of the fire, surrounded by clouds and deep darkness. This was all he said at that time, and he wrote his words on two stone tablets and gave them to me.--- Deut. 5:22 The rehearsal Moses gave Israel of the law before they entered Canaan still resonates to our day. The 10 commandments are not optional. We can't say they don't apply to me; I'll live the way I want to. They are the biggest deal you can imagine. God gave them to Moses on Mt. Sinai. He was not indecisive about them. He hasn't left it up to us whether we agree with them or like them. They were given to us by the Creator of the Universe. He will always do right, and it is the absolute truth. We may say we will not live according to them, but like Israel, we choose to do so at our own peril. Most of the crimes you see reported on the evening news deal with violating these 10 commandments. God was giving Israel a way to protect itself. He was not taking the fun out of their lives: He was giving them a way to survive all the deluge of idolatry and immortality they would encounter. In the strictest sense, you don't break the 10 commandments. His words or fixed in heaven and just as solid as the stone they were engraved upon. Vance Havner used to say. "They are as solid as the law of gravity. You jump off the roof of a building, you will break your neck, but you won't break the law of gravity." Many lives are being broken because people do not think the consequences of ignoring them apply to them when the cost of disobeying them is universal. Why can't we put them up in the classroom or treat not obeying them as important as being ready for a terrorist attack? It is because Satan has blinded their minds lest they believe in the glorious gospel of Christ (II Cor. 4:1-6). We better obey them, however, because you can't get them out of the Bible; you better get them into your life. Our Heavenly Father knows best, and He is not open to your opinion in the matter. They are unbreakable; you had better start living by them.--- Dan Nelson
