Christ Coming in the Fulness of Time
Gal. 4: 3 "But, when the fullness of time came, God sent forth His Son, made of a woman under the law"
The careful care Paul gives to the virgin birth is significant here. He says Christ was born the way God said the Messiah would redeem us from the fall and the curse of sin because of it Gen. 3:15. So in the fullness of time, Jesus came made of a woman. To amplify, formed in the woman through the conception of the Holy Spirit without any seed of a man.
So that Jesus was fully God and fully man. He had a human side and a divine side. On his human side, He shared various emotions. He was tempted. He was physically hurt and died on the cross. In his divine side, he healed the sick, raised the dead, knew what was in man, rose from the dead, and is alive always. He voluntarily placed His divine attributes on exercising authority over governments and powers on hold. He took upon Himself the role of a servant so that He might give us an example of how we are to live. Yet, He is King of Kings and Lord of Lords.
Jesus was made under the law. This means He was subject to the law, and although he did not have a sin nature that made him sin, he was tempted. But he kept the law in every respect and brought us into the right relationship with God by Him keeping the whole law and being the perfect sacrifice for God we need and cannot achieve ourselves. Rom. 8:3.
Yet there was a problem. Jesus' parents were from Nazareth, and He as the Messiah, was prophesied to come from Bethlehem Micah 5:2. He was of the house and lineage of David. How would they go from Nazareth to Bethlehem when it would have been safer to stay in Nazareth? There was a decree from Cesar August that all the world should be taxed. They went to Bethlehem, for they had to go to their family’s place of origin, whether she was very pregnant or not. God worked through the circumstances to bring his son into the world at the right place. So, the bread of life comes from the House of Bread, which is what Bethlehem means. The King of Kings and son of David come from the city of David.
God never does anything by accident. He always works through circumstances to accomplish His good in our lives.
While what may seem like an endless waiting game for something to happen in our life: God is not bound by time and space the way we are. He, in His own time and in His way, will bring something to pass and make it happen in our life. We should not give up hope but wait on the Lord so that He might work totally in our lives.
At Christmas time, we see the reality of God’s fullness being played out as we look at the events surrounding the birth of Christ. DN
