Matt. 26:28 "This is my blood of the New Testament which is shed for many for the remission of sins" Jesus had a complete understanding of what would happen on the cross. His sacrifice would bring about salvation through His death in our place and taking the punishment for sin we deserve. This is why it is frightening how many have misinterpreted the cross. The liberal denies the fact that all have to come through the work of Christ on the cross to be saved. World religionist thinks acknowledging Jesus is all that is required of them. The typical unbeliever lumbers by the cross unaffected, not understanding or not caring what Christ has done for us.Certainly, if Jesus didn't have to die for our sins, He would not have assigned this new meaning to the Passover meal. Instead, He emphatically stated He was instituting a new covenant based on His death there, and it is represented by the fruit of the vine and its representation of His bloodshed to cleanse us of our sins.We are guilty of sin and are sentenced to its punishment. We need forgiveness, we need restoration, and we need a relationship with God. The only way we will ever have it is based on what Christ did for us on the cross. He has provided a pathway to heaven we must take to be saved. Pictorially represented in the Lord's Supper, there can be no mistaken notions about what Jesus came to do. The only question is: Will we avail ourselves of all He has done for us so we can experience His plan for our lives and His work on our behalf.
