Turning misunderstanding into UNDERSTANDING BATTLING THE MISINFORMATION ... This is too important to miss!THE TRUTH - about 501c3 Churches .... Probably NOT what you're expecting to find out ....I've spoken to the issue of 501c3 extensively in interviews and on my radio program. 501c3 does not prohibit pastors or churches from expressing their political opinions or preaching ANYTHING. It only prohibits a church from endorsing one single candidate officially and/or raising "tax free" funds for a political candidate. We can speak to issues all we want and even give money to those causes and issues - no matter how political they are, provided a church gives no more than 10% of its total budget. A pastor can endorse anyone he wishes, provided he never claims he is speaking on behalf of his church. For example, I opened Trump's first campaign rally for him in Pensacola in 2016. I openly endorsed him on Fox News, Jim Bakker Show, and many others. I had his sign in my front yard and gave my own personal money to his campaign. Nothing illegal about any of that. Our church has been a 501c3 ever since the law was passed. BTW....pastors who claim there are things they can't preach, or people they cannot personally support because of 501c3 are either badly misinformed (it's really unneccessary to be that uniformed though - the 501c3 laws are only about 4 paragraphs long and easy to research), OR the pastor is being dishonest and lazy and "politically correct." Just more food for thought. The PROOF of all this is my own ministry. I've been in ministry for 35 years and supporting political candidates the whole time, and preaching whatever I want - even about political issues of the day. NEVER a legal problem. And there won't be.
