Matt. 23: 27, "Woe to you scribes and Pharisees hypocrites! For you are like whitewashed tombs which indeed appear beautiful outwardly, but inside are full of dead men's bones." Christianity is a religion of the heart. It sets it apart from every other world religion, including the Pharisees. Theirs were only for a show that made them look outwardly religious but still was corrupt. The Pharisees made sure the tombstones in the cemetery were kept white and bright, for it was a sin to walk over the grave or touch them inadvertently. In doing so, Jesus said it was a picture of their hypocrisy. Carefully they had an outward show of righteousness, but inwardly, they were what the grave contained: The bones of someone dead. The religion of the heart touches life and is genuine and real. It ushers forth sincerity and truth and indicates our true relationship with God. God knows the heart and will judge us by what or what is not in our hearts one day. What's in yours? Hopefully, the habitation of the Living God through faith in Christ for our salvation through the indwelling Holy Spirit. That is the only kind of relationship that God cares about and will bless with His presence.
