Matt. 22: 29 "Jesus answered and said to them, “You are mistaken, not knowing the Scriptures nor the power of God." (Love for the Bible as God's inspired Word is a pre-requisite for knowing God's scripture and power. There is power, all power through it, that the Sadducees knew nothing about because they wouldn't even accept much of the Old Testament as inspired and given by God. Hence, they brought up hypothetical questions such as the woman married to the seven brothers who all died one after another. They asked whose wife will she be (if there was a resurrection?)Jesus answered and affirmed the resurrection and no marriage in heaven (sorry, Mormons). He proclaimed boldly we don’t lose our identity when we die, but our souls will exist in Heaven or Hell depending on our relationship with God.The bigger issue here, though, was: the Sadducees (like many skeptical unbelievers today), erring and not knowing God's power through His word. The liberal will never know the power of God through His word until they accept it for what it is: God's inspired, authoritative Word.It's a big deal because eternal souls are at stake. If you don't see God's Word as authoritative, you will be like many today who ignore it. However, God will not ignore you. You will give the account to Him Heb. 9:27, Rom. 14:12. Then all they have ignored will be the most important thing in the universe. I know God's power through His word because I have seen it activated in my life and others that rest.
