"Keep yourselves in the love of God, looking for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ unto eternal life.
And of some have compassion, making a difference:
And others save with fear, pulling them out of the fire; hating even the garment spotted by the flesh." (Jude 1:21-23)
I read a story in years past concerning the heroics of a young fireman. A house was on fire and in the midst of the roaring blaze, he stepped forward and volunteered to go rescue a little baby, even though the fire chief had said that the flames were too fierce, and the structure was too unstable. As soon as that young fireman was able to get that little girl out the window and into the rescue net, the building collapsed, and he died.
Some years later, at a grave site was a statue of a fireman. One day beside that grave stood a twenty-year old young lady kneeling and sobbing. A man stopped and asked politely, “Was that your father or brother?” “No,” she cried, “That’s the man who died one day saving my life from a fire.”
The Lord Jesus Christ did something for humanity that no one else could ever do. While many struggle with the finality of death, we should be more concerned about the fact of everlasting life. Everyone is going spend eternity somewhere. Christ has provided the way to live eternally with Him (John 14:6)
Was there ever a time in your life when you heard a sermon on Hell, and the message was so plain and powerful, you could picture yourself being surrounded in the flames of eternal damnation? I certainly did! Whether you or others believe that Hell is not a place of unending torment, God's Word declares it to be so!
Friends, I saw by faith that Cross where Jesus Christ hung one day nearly 2,000 years ago with His outstretched nail-scarred hands inviting me to come. Well, I indeed knelt there one night and cried, "That's the Man Who died to save my soul from the fire of Hell."
