U.S. needs to bolster navy to keep China "in check"
Admiral Michael Gilday, commander of U.S. naval operations, became the latest senior U.S. military official to express heightened alarm over Beijing's island intentions.
The admiral said the U.S. Navy has adopted a "fight tonight" mentality in response and must be ready sooner, prioritizing lethality and fleet size.
"The U.S. military must be prepared to respond to a potential Chinese invasion of Taiwan, which could occur before the end of this year," the U.S. Navy chief said.
As a reminder, China is now hosting a global party convention, a rare event at which to summarize and set goals.
At the congress, of course, Xi also spoke, once again lashing out at Taiwan and threatening to use force in the near future.
