"The burden which Habakkuk the prophet did see."(Habakkuk 1:1)
Habakkuk was a prophet who held tightly to the demands of his Holy God Who called for righteous living from those who would follow Him. The name Habakkuk means "embracer." As a lover of God, he embraced right living and abhorred the wickedness that the people of Judah were all tangle up with during those dark days just before their captivity by the Babylonians.
Look at that opening verse again, "The burden which Habakkuk the prophet did see." I hear well-meaning people say all the time, "I'm praying for a burden." You're kidding me, right? Just take a good look around you folks, there's your burden! People all over the world are slipping into eternity at the rate of 81 people a minute, and the majority of them are falling into a Godless Hell. Again, there's your burden!
Do you think those Pastors, Evangelists, Missionaries, parents, or dedicated personal workers were waiting around for a burden before they spoke to you and me about sin's penalty and the Saviour's promise to redeem? I think not. They were like ole Peter along with John in the book of Acts who said, "For we cannot but speak the things which we have seen and heard." (Acts 4:20)
How can we then linger and loiter about any longer when the eternal destiny of lost souls hangs in the balance? You say, "I'm praying for a burden?" No, we never have to pray to do what's right, we simply preach that burden like Habakkuk did.
Friends, do we care about the eternal captivity is knocking on the door of every lost soul. Let's pick up the mantle of ole Habakkuk, "The burden which Habakkuk the prophet DID SEE."(caps. mine) Do you see it yet?..............Then there's your burden!
