"May God Have Mercy on Ukraine"War is a terrible thing. The price in human suffering is incalculable. Ukrainian and Russian families will lament the senseless deaths of their sons, husbands, fathers. Millions of innocent people will be displaced from their homes--never to return. Men who have no personal animosity toward each other are being forced to kill. Valuable resources are being squandered. For no rational reason. It’s always been the way of man. Megalomaniacs sit in their palatial surroundings and dream of conquest, expanding the kingdom, increasing revenue, and being feared by the leaders of the world. They care nothing for the heartache and turmoil and pain they cause. The attack on Ukraine is nothing less than classic bullying. Russia has 28 times the land mass of Ukraine and nearly four times the population. Russia maintains an outlandishly huge military presence and is well aware the Ukrainians have little. To attack without provocation is sheer brutality. So what do we do? America has long been the world’s police force, coming to the aid of victims like Kuwait and others. Shall we stand by and do nothing, giving the tyrant the impression that he can continue to rape nations as he pleases? We can give. There are influential Christian churches in Ukraine coming to the aid of the wounded and homeless. Let us flood them with the resources they need.Let us pray. We have millions of brothers and sisters in harm’s way. May the God of all comfort sustain them. May he protect those defending their homes. May he confound the plans of the aggressors and cause their effort to fail. And most of all, may the light of Christ bring hope to this war-torn country through his people, his Word, and his mercy.
