The spirit of infirmity It was a demon who caused the woman to be crippled for eighteen years.Luke 13:10-17Notice….there is no exorcism of the demon.Notice too…..she was a “ daughter of Abraham” meaning she was a believer.John 8:39-40,Matthew 3:9,Luke 3:8.For some reason God allowed this woman to be physically bound but not possessed. Can this happen today??My opinion only...The devil either possesses you or he doesn’t, there is no middle ground.satan certainly can afflict you physically because of your lifestyle and mentally by your lack of obedience to God but to the extent you submit to God will be the extent of your infirmity from satan.I speak after the manner of men because of the infirmity of your flesh: for as ye have yielded your members servants to uncleanness and to iniquity unto iniquity…Romans 6:19There is also regular infirmity ( no direct satanic influence) due to living in our fallen bodies...Galatians 4:13 The Bible is crystal clear that spiritual warfare exists. Ephesians 6:11-18 and from Luke 13, it is clear that evil spirits can always causes problems.Be carefulNot to overemphasize the power of demons. Most human ailments are simply caused by living in a fallen world, no repentance and bad living. There are many instances in Luke’s gospel of people being healed of diseases with no mention of a demonic cause. In Luke 13 Jesus specifically speaks of satan having bound this woman (verse 16). Was this binding because of how she lived??... I think so but in most other cases of healing, Jesus simply heals with no mention of evil spirits involved. No matter the specific cause of an infirmity, we can always bring the problem to God in prayer. James 4:7–8 talks about resisting the devil and submitting to God. Prayer is one way to do this. James 5:16 says we should confess our sins to one another so that we can be on praying ground.Your thoughts on this please…
