MEET THE FIRE FIGHTERS OF VALLEY GROVE
Valley Grove Volunteer Fire Department will be hosting an Open House on Saturday, September 24th, from 2:30 PM to 9 PM. There will be live music, skills displayed by Stone Martial Arts and by the members of Valley Grove VFD
Doors open at 3. There will be concessions available, pre-recorded selections will keep you company, and some activities will already be taking place. Feel free to relax and enjoy the day.
At 4, Shannon Canterbury will take you through a collection of eighties rock, country hits and other selections. He is a popular performer in the Valley and beyond, the front man for the Shannon Canterbury Band. Highlands’ Quaker Steak and Lube, a longtime patron of music and events in the Valley, as well as a popular dining destination with a menu and ambience geared to sport fans, drivers, and motorcycle enthusiasts, is proud to bring this talented performer to this venue. He’s a performer other musicians watch, and often join in with, when he hosts music events throughout the Valley.
At 5:15 PM, Valley award-winning Stone Martial Arts will give a demonstration in taekwondo and other martial arts. Run by Jacob and Lisa Stone, this family-run Wheeling dojo has provided local first responders training and has a long relationship with our first responder community and the Wheeling community.
Valley Grove firefighters will give various skills demonstrations between 6:30 and 7:30, and various other parts of the day..
Pirate Sunrise, an Ohio Valley based duet, will close from 7:30 to 8:30. Partners David Hildreth and R. Scott Stewart each have several solo CDs and will be bringing you entirely new joint material as well, courtesy of Ruttenbucks and Wheeling Rock Depot. Ruttenbucks is also a longtime patron of live music in the Ohio Valley, with an atmosphere designed for outdoors aficionados and award-winning ribs. Stewart brings a rich background of Americana and Caribbean influences, and Hildreth has been involved in playing with and recording bands local and national.
Ohio County Sheriff’s K-9 Officer Remi will be bringing their two-legged partner, Deputy Seifert and K-9 Officer Silver will bring Deputy Frey for a meet and greet. Face painting, an appearance by the costumed superheroes by the Your Friendly Valley-Wide Spiderman Group, aa well as concessions by Country Comfort Catering will all be part of the events. It will be a great afternoon and early evening of family friendly entertainment, and a great chance to meet and support the fire fighters and EMS personnel of Valley Grove VFD, provider to one of Ohio County’s largest service areas. A 50-50 raffle will benefit the fire department.
