Simply known as D-Day. May we never forget!!
There is a saying in the military -- it's bad to be last, but it's worse to be first. The first wave of troops who landed on Omaha Beach took the worst of the casualties. Of the 180 men from Company A, 116th Infantry Regiment, 29th Infantry Division, who landed on the western-most part of the beach, 90 were dead within minutes of disembarking from their landing craft.
By the next day, only 15 were still able to fight. By the end of that day almost 5,000 of the Americans who landed on Omaha were dead or wounded.
Remember those who fought & gave their lives for our freedom!
