When I went out yesterday evening with my applejack, George was waiting patiently on his table with a pecan sitting there. He only brings a trade when he wants to talk. I poured some in his bowl and waited. Turns out he'd watched Joe's speech Thursday night, and wanted to know if my mind had changed (he SUPPORTS gun control, duh). I've read him the entire D.C. v. Heller position from the SCOTUS, and yet here he was again. I asked him why the perpetrators of mass violence always attacked schools or places where there were no firearms, and he said they were "soft" targets. Then, I asked him why they wanted to turn our entire country into a soft target for criminals. I asked him why I had to give up a fundamental right to self protection for me and my family, even him if he was behaving. He feigned misunderstanding, and I pointed out that without protection, he and his were subject to poachers who fancied squirrel stew and flour dredged fried squirrel. Then, he asked me about school safety. I pointed out the fact the election's coming up, and THEY were in trouble. He didn't see the correlation until I pointed out the inconsistencies between D.C. security and school security. Why aren't they the same? One set gets fences and concertina wire plus troops, the other nothing? Then, they talk about saving one precious little life, but are insistent thousands can be murdered every day in abortion clinics across our nation. Then I showed him the definition of hypocrisy, which is becoming an alternative lifestyle now. Yes, it's a mental health issue, but he wasn't so sure why it was getting worse now than ever before. I explained lack of freedom, increasing regulations, selective law enforcement, judicial activism, socialism, and tyrannical authoritarianism. Coupled with an extremely effective corrupt MSM and social media influencers and perpetrators of propaganda, people are being brought to the brink. Then, inflation takes hold when they can't even afford to live anymore. I think I finally got through to him when I explained THEY were perpetrators of hate, without understanding what hate can DO. We're all finding out the effects. THAT'S where we need to start.
