They were unknown, only believed to exist. Contrary to beliefs, many thought were other land masses between europe and the far east. Natives of the “americas” lived in civilizations and tribes. Yes, it did exist.

I believe this is a good time to share about where the word AMERICA comes from ; America is named after Amerigo Vespucci, the Italian explorer who set forth the then revolutionary concept that the lands that Christopher Columbus sailed to in 1492 were part of a separate continent.
