What is a college degree worth? My college experience may have been totally different than what is available today. I graduated from a large Midwestern state university with a BBA (Bachelor of Business Administration). I accomplished this in 4 years, living in a dorm and my sorority house. Part of the reason I chose this school was the cost! I grew up in a middle class home where our parents demanded post high school training/education. I recognized that I was the 3rd child in 6 years to go to college, the oldest was pursuing his PHD, so he was still in school. The middle one had just graduated and was still looking for a job. Our father had been underemployed the previous year due to the economy and gas crisis. I had student loans each year. I certainly enjoyed college! I was not the "best" student although I earned a scholastic scholarship and a place on the Dean's List. My schedule was study and classes Sunday evening through Thursday noon and then PARRRTAYYY Thursday afternoon thru Saturday night. The point was that regardless of what happened at college I knew I would need to pay off those loans! At the time, I took the maximum loan of $1,500 per year. Yes, the repayment of those loans put a crimp in my spending ability for the first few years after graduation. Lower loan amounts, lower salaries. I managed to pay off those loans a little ahead of schedule. No I didn't take a vacation or buy a home or get new furniture or .... My responsibility was to repay those loans! I resent the idea that current students loans are being forgiven by our government! You ate the steak now pay for it! Why are we allowing adults to act like irresponsible children? If YOU decided to take loans to obtain a degree in Underwater Basket Weaving and now find you are only able to obtain a minimum wage job, well, that is on you! Hope you REALLY enjoyed that steak! I ate my steak. I enjoyed my steak and I paid for my steak!
