Numbers. Those pesky things we learned about when we were young. Some people learned about them, some didn't. They can be utilized for wonderful accomplishments, or manipulated for evil. Originally, they were very important in my field of electronics. Percentages became important in the grocery business, and profit/loss was of tantamount importance on our ranch. Then, later on in life, I confused myself when I installed a marine reverse cycle air system in our sailboat, and there was no thermostat. There were numbers on a dial that didn't correlate to anything. The manual recommended not installing a thermometer, or at least not to pay attention to one for at least a week. Seems like a lesson in comfort, temperature, and humidity was needed. It worked. Instead of determining comfort by thermometer, we learned to define it by how we felt. Yes, it was an eye opener.
Today, we define everything by numbers. Time, whether a digital clock, or on a clock face. In spite of circadian rhythms and biorythms. Prices of gas, or groceries. Bank account balances. Taxes. MPG. RPM. Votes. People. Everything is defined by numbers now instead of how people used to deal with everything, which was different and individual. Ironically, numbers are becoming the tools of government instead of the individuals. Instead of by engineers and architects. Instead of living our lives the way WE would prefer. To the extent that they've become unfathomable. Millions. Billions. Trillions. Without context, our bewilderment increases to the point we cease caring instead of demanding OUR lives, liberty, and pursuit of happiness are paramount. That's capitulation to tyranny and authoritarians. Think about it. Time for lunch? Check the clock. Time for bed? Check.
Doubt me? Search how many people die every year attributed to time change. Doesn't seem to affect animals, though. Hmmm..........
