The older we get the heavier the mantle of "Only the good die young" hangs on us. Until today. I think I've figured out the true purpose of longevity. One word. Continuity. SOME have to bridge the generation gap and spread their knowledge and wisdom or this whole thing falls apart! When we get to the point we're so frustrated we can't talk anymore, we move on to the next chapter in our being. You know the types. Crossed arms on the chest, boot lip protruding, mumbling under their breath. No, nobody wants to hear what they have to say. Nobody. Yes, flies ARE attracted to honey more than vinegar. "I'm so mad I could just SPIT" ring a bell? Yeah, you took off a runnin' when you heard THAT one. Then, there's the pre-takeoff line "I can't talk as elegantly as others" that Moses tried. Didn't work for him, either! C'mon. Quit it out !
There's another way. Ever heard of "edification"? Say you have a friend whose children won't listen to them because familiarity breeds contempt. Next time you see them, remark "Must be incredible to grow up with "xxxxx" as a parent. You're fortunate indeed. I'm actually jealous". Spread the word to your friends. When those kids keep hearing third party praise about their parents, they'll reevaluate. If you really feel challenged to the point you can't offer your opinion to the public, offer praise upon somebody you know so you're contributing to their credibility. Yes, it's called edification, and it works better than grumping, cancelling, griping, negativity, or poison pill mouth. By adding third party credibility, it amplifies the effect. You're not blowing your own horn, you're blowing somebody else's! NOW, picture what happens when they turn that around on YOU! I guarantee you'll reach more people than talking cr$p !
Bridging generational gaps might just be more fun and gratifying. Sure beats the alternative!
