Its origins date back to the 16th century, the time of the samurai, and its founder, Ueda Soko (1563-1650), was an important Warlord during the Sengoku Era, a period of provincial warfare in Japan. More than 400 years later, the practice of Ueda-ryū continues to reflect the customs, values, and etiquette of the samurai.
