One important difference between refined sugar and naturally occurring sugars is the bundle of stuff which is in the fruit. There is fiber as well as other nutrients for the body to use. The fiber makes the sugar enter the blood stream more slowly than it does with refined sugar, so there isn't the sugar spike and crash. So, go natural sugar in something which was grown, not for refined sugar in something which was manufactured.
Eating fruit on an empty stomach (I know there are many google searches out there to say this is a myth) is when your body is able to absorb the nutrients. Remember food is for fuel. Nutrients are the fuel that matters. I understand taste matters but adding this to recipes just clogs the digestive process.
