In order for a business to exist it is necessary that they provide a product and or service that can be differentiated from the competition. If the products are the same as offered by others either your prices must be lower or your service must make a difference. People need to know you (as a business) care about them. This was Management 101 when I was in school. The shift away from that
philisophy of business was accelarated in the past few years. The bottom line became more important than anything, stock prices and corporate profits came to the forefront in the 1990s. In order to reduce costs, computers took over many tasks.
It has now reached a point where a customer can not speak to a person! I made the mistake of ordering something from a large national (not Wal-Mart or Target) retailer. It was broken in transit however the story is more complicated and I needed to speak to someone to straighten it out. I have spent 4 days dealing with website including chat function and phone (automated phone tree) trying to straighten it out. Yesterday I sent long message via Messenger. As of now, still haven't gotten any response. Will I ever spend money with that company again? No!
It all goes to the question of common civility. I will not protest, I will not work to set up a national boycott. I will not claim discrimination. I WILL take my business elsewhere. The longer that businesses and governments play the shell game the angrier people become. People have had enough, we all need civil discourse about the future! Stop lecturing and listen! Stand up and prepare.
