Amish white bread
Yield 2 1 lb loaves or one
Ingredients:
2 c. Warm water
1/4 c. Sugar
4 1/2 tsp. Yeast
1 1/2 tsp salt
1/4 c. Vegetable oil
5 1/2 c. Bread flour
Butter for brushing
Directions:
Mix water, sugar and yeast. Proof (rest) 5 min or untill foamy.
Add oil and salt. If using a tabletop mixer, turn on low and add flour one cup at a time. Knead in mixer 5 min or by hand 10 min.
Form into ball, coat bowl with oil and place dough back in bowl, turn once to coat.
Cover and rise 1 hour
Set oven to 350°
Punch down dough and flip onto floured surface.
Knead and shape into loaf/ loaves.
Place in oils pans, cover and raise 40 min on preheating stove.
Uncover and bake at 350° for approx 35 min
Remove from pan and place on top to cool.
Cover top and sides with butter.( If you really like soft bread like me, butter the top twice)
Cool before slicing( if you can keep hubby out of it that long) 😂
