Today started the same as most mornings do, with a wake-up call from the firefighter's scammers. After my almost daily reminder that our government is feckless and impotent in things pertaining to us, I obviously embarked on my next sense of urgency. Almost wet myself when I saw the glare outside and looked out the window. When I went to bed last night, there was around 1/4" of snow on the ground. That had grown to almost 4" overnight ! I took care of my obligation, and looked out again. So peaceful. So serene. Saturday morning with zero traffic in the middle of the woods. Yeah, it was 24*, but our outside wood heater had us at a comfy 75.6* inside. Wife and I sat on the end of our bed waking up like the antiques we are, and our little dog wanted to go out. We let him out the back door of our bedroom, and proceeded to watch/crack up seeing him dragging certain parts of his body in the snow, but he managed anyway. After a brief news update, we came out in the great room and sat back. That's when the fun began. Memories. Precious memories. Living in many different places when it snowed. Hot chocolate. Hot buttered rum. Snowball fights/forts. Tubing. Discing. Skiing. Surviving the attempted murder by my wife knocking me down when she fell getting off the chairlift and almost spearing my temple with a ski pole. The first time driving in snow with a rear wheel drive car and fixing my left front A-frame myself. The first time driving a front wheel drive car and learning how incredibly fast the rear end can catch/pass the front end. More snowball fights. Rolling our Lab in the snow. Remembering as a kid the anxiety of watching the crawl on TV to see if school was closed for the day, knowing my Mother was praying it wasn't. Completely numb fingers/hands/feet/toes. The big difference between mittens and gloves. Watery eyes and running noses. Playing demolition derby on our bikes with our neighbors on snow covered and icy roads. "Signing" your name in the snow. Making snow cream (not with the yellow snow). Did i mention the peace, silence, and serenity? The smell of fresh air ? Yeah, snow days are wonderful. Funny how you can transport yourself back in time and remember so much you normally forget about. Well, it's time to go put another load of wood in the furnace and throw snowballs for the dogs to chase. Might get lucky and trip my son and roll him, too. Then again..........

Yep, we got just a little over 2" in this part of the state. I stayed up late watching it cover our yard and the road. It sure was peaceful.
