Doesn't take much for a person to evaluate their selves and their preparations. As I sat here this morning, I heard the "gunshots" of living in the South through an ice storm. Yeah, when the pine tree branches snap, and the tops are toppled due to ice buildup, it gets your attention. 12 Guage? On your property. Fainter? Probably a neighbor. Yes, we were fine, came up on generator an hour after we lost power. 12.5kw Kubota diesel generator, for almost 7 hours. We have wood heat with a blower that can be powered with our portable inverter/generator in the case our main fails, and a 4kw gas backup for our five refrigerators and freezers just in case. When you live rural, you plan for things that don't depend on others. Usually, in these circumstances, we can always depend on our telecom/internet, which failed two and a half hours into the ice storm. No biggie, we've got a cheapie cell phone backup, that ain't smart. The good news? NO SPAMMER/SCAMMER calls all day ! Seems my warranty is good after all ! Coming up on generator, we watched the unfolding catastrophe on MSM channels, since we don't have satellite or cable. By God's grace, we SURVIVED ! There were people that were caught without food! There were people caught without gasoline ! Electric cars couldn't be recharged ! Mass hysteria ! Chicken Little had a heart attack because the COVID testing centers were closed ! Even those pansy food banks were closed ! Yes, it's a Sunday, on MLK weekend, but, but but ! So, instead , they're plastering Clyburn talking about the Jim Crow attempt at circumventing voter's rights laws ! Swear! Thousands without power in the rural communities, and they're preaching election reform ! Once again, their peanut brains have failed. There's those of us that have at LEAST a 90 day supply of food, including canned and dehydrated milk. We know Mother Nature, and how she can be. Food, water, and power are handled regardless. Yes, we deporables still have tractors, chainsaws, and can get around. We stay in touch with our neighbors. We still take care of our crops and stock in order to feed you, in spite of your propensity to bite the hands that feed you. We persevere without requiring assistance from the "dole". Call us what you will, but we call ourselves the HEART of the America we grew up in. We don't even expect respect, which has disappeared in your "New World". We're not even aggravated or ambivalent, we're just too busy to participate in your prepubescent games. Yes, my cheapie cellphone rang off the hook from neighbors checking on us and making sure we were fine, with offers of anything we might need delivered by tractor. We offered the same to others using our 1940 Ford 9N. Yeah, it still runs, the same as the American spirit and heart does in rural America. Y'all might want to try it, it beats worrying about ANTIFA and BLM ! The WIFE'S homemade cinnamon rolls are done after supper. I WON'T disrespect HER ! God Bless !

Sounds like the community we live in. We’re learning how to look out for each other without power and connecting to the rest of the world.
