Fish Paste Sandwiches were popular during WW I & II - more particularly in England, but also in America. If you didn’t make your own Fish Paste, you could buy it at some markets and grocery stores. It came in thick, glass jars. My Grandmother always kept a couple of grenade-like jars of Fish Paste at the back of her pantry ‘just in case’ an unexpected visitor might feel peckish.
