Niels Hanson’s Colt 1847 Walker revolver
Designed by Samuel Colt c.1846 at the request of Texas ranger Cpt. Samuel Hamilton Walker, manufactured by Eli Whitney Jr c.1847 in Whitneyville, Connecticut - serial number 1022.
.44 caliber cap and ball, six-shot cylinder, single action, creeping loading lever.
The Colt Walker as a concept was born when Cpt. Walker asked Samuel Colt for a revolver more powerful than his earlier Colt Paterson, which Walker had used successfully in the past. Much like the old German reiter pistols, it would be carried in a saddle holster and powerful enough to take down either an enemy cavalryman or his horse. Much like the old German reiter pistols, the result was a massive handgun.
