I've got a friend of over 40 years who's the master of understatements. After many years, I've decided to join him. He's not sarcastic, but he CAN be quite hilarious. One time in St. Augustine, he was with me visiting some friends of mine, when Fido, their flying squirrel pet flew across the room and landed on him. It ran all around him like a tree, then climbed up on his head and flew off. I was barely able to control myself, but he ignored it until we'd left the house. After we were about halfway to the car, he stopped, looked at me, and said "What WAS that"? I told him about Fido, and he just shook his head as he walked to the car, simply saying "That's amazing". Another time, he'd flown out to New Mexico, and my wife and I were giving him a grand tour. We took him to Madrid, an old ghost town that was mostly being brought back by a "hippie" crowd. We were sitting in the saloon/restaurant, and he was looking around in amazement as we waited for our cheeseburgers. That's when a local dog walked in the swinging doors, pausing at different tables for pets and/or treats. He looked at that dog, cracked a smile, and said "That's amazing". That's all he said, and I was almost wiped out. To be sure, he was out of his comfort zone, but wasn't rattled. I don't know if he got that way from serving on an icebreaker for the USCG, which he did, or from his "colorful " fighting past, which he's given up. Now, I'm trying to understand how he does it for obvious reasons. Yes, things today ARE getting better slowly but surely, but it seems for every step forward our nation takes three steps back. It used to be four steps back, but We The People are starting to push back. We're sick of all of this. Every time I go to research most things, I find nothing but lies. Rather than get aggravated, now I just relax with "THAT'S amazing", or "That's AMAZING", whichever applies. When a GOP Representative is about to be stripped of all of her committee assignments for anti-muslim rhetoric after a muslim Representative spoke anti-Semitic comments on the House floor, that deserves "THAT'S AMAZING". When I hear comments from OUR House floor, I AM amazed, and that's no lie. With the politicization of everything today, I shouldn't be, but I'm still a babe in the woods. I've got two other friends, one who posts YJCMTSU, and another who posts "We The People", with headlines you can search and find out it's really true, though it's hard to grasp that it is. Yes, "That's amazing" comes out in one of it's many forms several times a day now. It really does work, too. It can be amazing for any number of ways, including the fact so many people believe the wrong things. Example? 62% don't approve of Joe's handling of the economy. That means 38% do? THAT'S amazing. 38 out of 100 people like it this way? That's AMAZING ! Our Congresspeople say/do nothing about it except want to spend MORE? THAT'S AMAZING ! If they're so confident of the past elections being 100% fair, why are they spending SO much time, money, and effort preventing investigations? That's amazing. Trying to pass legislation establishing Federal Government control of our elections against the Constitution? That's AMAZING. That people actually think that prattle will stand the test of the SCOTUS? THAT'S AMAZING ! Yet, here we are. That they actually believe they're going to get away with all of this nonsense? THAT'S TRULY AMAZING!
