Early in her service, USS Lexington (CV 2) employed her turboelectric power plant to assist in providing electricity to Tacoma, WA, when drought conditions caused a shortage of hydroelectric power. Between December 1929 and January 1930, the aircraft carrier supplied 4,251,160 kilowatt-hours of energy.
