Oh boy, oh boy! Read an article in the weekly newspaper yesterday about NBC News doing a series of stories leading up to the Nov. 2022 elections. NBC will have embedded reporters in 7 "bellwether" counties across the country. Unfortunately, I can envision the reports coming from our county. Rather than highlighting the positives, it will continue to push the stereotypes of aging rural south. The truth is this county has seen a 10% population decline in the past 10 years and the poverty level is high. Part of the problems facing our community are rooted in levels of expectation. Many in this county have bought into the "woe is me" rather than facing the fact that actions have consequences. When our school superintendent apparently buys into the student's self pity we are just accepting and normalizing the downtrodden mentality!
