#OTD in 1944, U.S. Navy aircraft sank the Musashi during the Battle of Leyte Gulf. Musashi and sister Yamato were the two heaviest battleships ever built. The Musashi did not go down easy. It took an estimated 19 torpedo and 17 bomb hits to sink it. The wreck was discovered in 2015. This image is of the Musashi firing the 18.1" guns, the largest ever fitted on a warship.
