Released in 1972, this is the first single by Donald Fagan and Walter Becker.. known collectively as .. Steely Dan. It is sung by drummer, Jim Hodder, rather than by Donald Fagan, as we've all become accustomed to hearing. Being the perfectionists Fagan and Becker are (were.. Becker has since passed), the group had so disliked the song, it didn't even appear on their debut album, 'Can't Buy A Thrill'. It was, however, recorded later by the group Poco on their 1975 album, 'Head Over Heals'. No, it doesn't yet have that Steely Dan 'feel' to it.. but you can certainly tell they were on their way. It features Donald Fagan on electric piano, piano, backing vocals; Walter Becker on Bass guitar, Jeff 'Skunk' Baxter on the pedal steel guitar, Jim Hodder on drums, percussion, lead vocals, David Palmer on backing vocals, and Tim Moore.. also on backing vocals. 'Skunk' Baxter had also played with The Doobie Brothers.
