On this day: 36 years ago, eight modified IDF F-15s flew 1,280 miles over open water to attack PLO headquarters in Hammam al-Shatt, Tunisia (October 1, 1985). Code named "Operation Wooden Leg", the mission was the longest air strike conducted by Israel since the 1976 Entebbe raid, and the first time F-15 Eagles were used as fighter-bombers.
