Let's say you go into a bank and open an account. They assign it a number, and you sign the signature card and their account rules and regulations agreement. You continue over the years to deposit money in that account, and open up a savings account. Then you open a retirement account. One day, due to circumstances, you go to pull your money out of the bank, and you're told they don't have it. Just go home and they'll let you know when they get it, it's just going to take an undetermined amount of time. Wouldn't you have a problem with that? Of course you would. You'd make some calls and that bank's going to be shut down for breach of fiduciary obligations. Fancy words for breaking their word. Yes, it's happened before, and FDIC and Federal banking regulators step in and sell off the bank's assets to other banks, and pay depositors up to the limits of their obligations to the depositors, which may not cover the losses. That's why some people have accounts in several banks, due to the limits of FDIC caps. Some people understand this, some don't, they just trust the right things are being done, including by the government. When we were growing up, we opened an account with the Social Security Administration. Deposits were automatically deducted from our paychecks and credited to that account number we were assigned. When we retired, we were going to get a certain amount every month based on the contract, but it was OUR money, and the fiduciary obligations were in the hands of our government. When I see that Schumer critter on television wailing about not being able to send out Social Security checks to our elderly if they don't get their way over the budget crisis, I exploded. HOW DARE THEY. They've robbed monies from the Social Security Trust Fund for years, and kicked the payback can down the road as they enrichened their political cronies and themselves. Now, they have the GALL to hold back money that's not even theirs to touch from elderly who already are faced with food/housing/pharmaceuticals decisions they can't cover satisfactorily. If you're comfortable with that, you're heartless. At their age, they are well past the ability to go to work just to survive. Even the purported 6% increase won't be seen because of the hike in medicare supplemental premiums. That moronic imbecile is blaming the "other" party for this, which is going to effect Veteran's pensions and benefits as well. The very people who stood up in the face of anything to keep our nation free whilst THEY got deferments and never served. When the over 22 MILLION Veterans get wind of this, trust me. You'd rather sandpaper a cougar's behind than deal with them. They've done the job they contracted for, and don't want to hear about breach of contract. They couldn't, and neither can the government. Under these conditions, stand by for mandatory draft next. Volunteers? For THIS? Just because some old people in their dotage make up whatever rules they want and sit back like the fat cat rulers and tyrants they've become? Yeah, no. Nope. It's like they're TRYING to start a revolution in our nation ! Maybe they figure they'll be able to pass gun confiscation if it happens. There's GOT to be more behind it all than just midterm elections. Punish the whole nation because THEY haven't learned how to live within their means? Seriously? Mandatory balanced budget amendment is the only answer. IF we can find whatever hole they're going to be hiding in after this debacle they've created. Staying meek, permissive, and quiet while our elderly and Veterans are being abused for politics is the ultimate cowardice. The World is watching ! Cat got YOUR tongue ?
