A LTV A-7 Corsair II, from USAF’s 76th Fighter Squadron, deploying Mk-82 500 lb Snake-eye bombs during a training exercise (circa 1980s). The fins attached to the bomb are designed to increase the drag of the weapon, slowing its forward progress and allowing the delivery aircraft to safely pass over the target before the bomb explodes. Snake-eye bombs allow jet fighters to attack targets from an altitude of 200 ft or less.
