Is two party system in the USA still effective? Our “two party system” absolutely ensures that the voters have absolutely no voice in our government. Therefore the “two party system” is very effective at making sure that the rich and the corporations are in charge of our government. Thanks to the two party system, the rich and the corporations choose who shall run for elective office. The only function of the voter is to ratify that choice after the fact. Because the wealthy class, not the voters, choose who gets to run for office, the rich and the corporations are insulated from any priorities the voters might actually want. This enables the wealthy and the corporations to enact laws that suit their agenda, no matter how much damage those laws do to the rest of us.Take tax breaks for example. No citizen with a functioning mind would ever approve of the tax break legislation that is passed by all Republican administrations. When you give the rich tax cuts, the shortage that created is borrowed, and the Working Class get stuck with the debt. But the rich who benefit from tax cuts don’t care what “we” think, because the politicians our “two party system” put in charge of the government, answer to the rich and the corporations, not to “us”.The “two party system” is very “effective” alright. Our Working Class is practically destroyed economically, our entire country is in economic decline, and only 1% of our citizens benefit from all of this.Of course it goes without saying that both parties in our “two party system” are wholly owned subsidiaries of the wealthy/corporate class. The two party system is actually a one party system. They divide the country by using a strategy which is used in professional wrestling, soap operas and other forms of entertainment. One politician or party pretends to be the bad guy or Heel . The other pretends to be the good guy or Face . They pick an issue, take opposite sides and get fans to support them. When they are not on camera, they are the best of friends, or at least professional colleagues, who split the take and have a laugh at voters’ expense. Just like opponents in a professional wrestling match or the face and villain on a popular soap opera. In Washington, this happens in the Members’ Dining Room or swank parties. In my state, it happens at a famous (infamous?) steakhouse where legislation is made and Republican-Democratic operatives divide up legislative districts. Republican gets this district…Democrat gets that district. I’m sure that there are similar venues in other states.
