Liquid Handsoap Recipe
Once you have made bar soap, making liquid handsoap is super simple.
I make a gallon at a time. The original recipe made a quart. So you can multiply or divide this recipe to fit your needs.
Ingredients (for a gallon):
4 oz (by weight) bar soap
4 qts water
10-20 drops essential oil of choice (optional)
Yep. That's it!
Directions:
Grate the soap on a cheese grater.
Place it in a pot or pan that holds at least 2 quarts. Add 1 qt of the water and heat, stirring constantly, until the soap is melted. Remove from heat and add another quart of cold water, stirring so that it mixes well. Add the essential oil, if desired.
Place the other two quarts of cold water in the jug you want to store your soap in. Then pour the warm liquids into the jug. (I use a plastic jug, which is why I do it this way.  I don't want to melt the plastic).
If it doesn't quite fit, that's ok. Shake up what's in the jug and set aside. Shake again the next morning, as it may have separated into layers. It should be gelled nicely and will stay mixed after this.
If you had some that didn't quite fit in the jug, put it in another jar, or in your bathroom soap dispenser and add an equal amount of water. Shake. Shake again next morning.
This soap doesn't suds up as much as commercial soap, but it will get your hands clean.
