I watched a CMPD press conference regarding the number of shootings in the past week. Many of the shootings have been traced to high school fights. The press conference was held because the shootings have escalated to the point where 2 cars full of "kids" fired 150 rounds into a home killing a 3 year old! The police made a plea to parents to check their children's room, phone and social media as well as finding out where they are at night. Excuse me! When did parents stop doing those things? I truly believe in the right of parents to make decisions for their own families. However, not knowing where your child is, or what they are doing, is not a decision it is more of a failure of parentage. We don't get to be their friend until they are adults (if we are blessed). It is our job to nurture and direct them while they are children. Yes, that includes rules! It isn't always fun, but wouldn't you rather have dinner with them than visit them in prison, or worse yet, the cemetery?
