Today's OT reading for Daily Mass is Joshua chapter 3, the Crossing of the Jordan River. If the Ark of the Old Covenant in this account was sufficient to lead the Israelites across the river into the Promised Land, stopping the waters from flowing so they could walk on dry ground, then why cannot the Ark of the New Covenant, the Blessed Virgin Mary, lead us through the troubled waters of this life into the Promised Land of Paradise? Her instruction is always the same as what she gave to the servants at the Wedding Feast in Cana: "Do whatever He tells you" (John 2:5).Today's Gospel reading was about forgiving others in Matthew 18:21-35. Consistent with this is the thought that one of the worst prisons is an unforgiving heart from which God is powerless to rescue. Matthew 18:34-35 states:Then in anger his master handed him [the unforgiving servant] over to the torturersuntil he should pay back the whole debt.So will my heavenly Father do to you,unless each of you forgives his brother from his heart.
