HALF-BAKED
Have you ever wondered where the term half-baked (as in, "That's a half-baked idea) came from? Answer: Hosea 7:8 - "Ephraim mixes himself with the peoples; Ephraim is a cake not turned." In ancient times cakes were baked on hot rocks and had to be turned over to be cooked thoroughly. Israel (i.e., Ephraim) made political deals with Assyria (Hosea 5:13) while making a pretence of repentance to God (Hosea 6:1-3) --> a shallow repentance that God rejected in Hosea 6:4-5. So Israel got burnt on one side by Assyria, and was unscathed on the other, just like a half-baked cake.
Now you know the origin of the term half-baked.
