1945, the Fletcher-class destroyer USS Callaghan (DD-792) sank near Okinawa after a kamikaze flying a bomb-laden wood and fabric biplane smashed into the starboard side. The Callaghan was the last of almost 50 Allied ships sunk by a kamikaze attacks during the war.
