Many families have the quandary of what to do with Mom/Dad etc.. I am blessed in that my sister stayed at home, worked full-time in social services and took care of our parents. My parents have been gone for several years and she has decided to downsize. A really BIG job as my Mother was a packrat! Now we are facing the dilemma of the "couch". We grew up with the couch, knew the story of it, were not allowed to bounce on it but it was still the couch. My family is from Illinois, the couch was a gift from an old family friend to my parents as newlyweds. Now, it has been deemed "historically significant" by a presidential library but they do not have the proper conservators to take care of the wood and upholstery. The couch has been hauled across country in numerous moves. So now, what do we do with the "couch". Kind of reminds me of our national history, it's old, well loved by many, warts and all. It NEEDS to be passed on to the future generations to love, appreciate and learn.
