I am updating this post because of an ignorant comment made by a person who knows little about the Catholic Church and nothing about Archbishop Lefebvre. This person called the Church a cult and stated Archbishop Lefebvre was a cardinal. Both statements are incorrect.The Church was called Catholic in a letter to the Church at Smyrna in AD 110 by St. Ignatius of Antioch. He was one of the disciples of St. John who himself was a disciple of Jesus and who wrote the Book of Revelation to the seven Churches in Asia Minor, one of which was (by coincidence) Smyrna. Therefore, ever since the very beginning the Church has been known as One Holy Catholic and Apostolic. Catholic means Universal. It does not mean Roman, but it includes Roman. It is not a cult like Scientology or Christian Science or Jehovah Witness. It has existed since about AD 30 when Jesus in Matthew 16:18 told Peter, “Thou art Rock and upon this Rock I shall build my Church.” Sadly, both wheat and weeds grow in the Church as Jesus stated would happen in Matthew 13:24-30. The failure of Catholic clergy, however, is no different than the failure of Protestant preacher boys like Ted Haggard (who like male masseuses), Ravi Zacharias (who liked female masseuses) and Jimmy Swaggart (who committed adultery).Now let us consider Archbishop Lefebvre. He was never appointed a Cardinal. In fact, he strenuously objected to what he considered the modernist heresies of Vatican Council II in the early to mid-1960s. he stated what the meme below stated about not obeying what is evil precisely because he differed with the Vatican in Rome on the introduction of novel theology and teaching into the Church. His point is that we should never acquiesce to heretical doctrine to show we are obedient because then we are disobeying God. All things considered that is a sentiment with which most Protestants capable of cognitive thought would agree.Now if the dear reader wants to discuss these things rationally with well documented research, then I am most happy to oblige. But if the reader wants to be steeped in anti-Catholic prejudice and mouth off anti-Catholic rhetoric, then that person can as easily be blocked. I am interested in learning from our separated Protestant brothers and sisters, But I am NOT going to tolerate the Faith being demeaned and ridiculed out of bone-headed ignorance and presumption.
