You see, when we take a shower, we inhale the gasses from toxic chemicals that have been heated, such as chlorine. When chlorine combines with organic matter in tap water, it forms something called trihalomethanes (THMs) – which are deadly to human health and can cause cancer, especially when inhaled, ingested, or absorbed through the skin.
Warning about “regular” shower water: Understanding the cancer risk
Today, scientists are hypothesizing that many of the cancer cases that we once thought were caused by the chemicals we ingest through tap water are/were actually caused by the chlorine gas and other chemical gasses we inhale while taking a shower or bath.
In fact, as the Environmental and Occupational Health Sciences Institute warns us, “inhalation and dermal absorption exposures to chlorinated water will result in a larger chloroform dose and may present a greater risk than ingestion.” In fact, “the chloroform dose from a single, ten-minute shower is equal to, and possibly greater than, that from the average two liters of water ingestion on a daily basis.”
